The Encampment at the Historic Fort York

The Encampment was commissioned by the City of Toronto and Luminato for the Bicentennial Commemoration of the War of 1812. This artist tent exhibit is called the Encampment by the art duo Thomas+Guinevere( Thom Sokoloski and Jenny-Anne McCown) a commemorative piece located at the historic Fort York. From June 8 to June 24,  200 illuminated tent houses individual art installations will be transformed at the grounds of the Fort York National Historic Site inspired by the people who shaped Toronto’s past and as many of these individuals remain unrecognized as part of our history. Each tent contains an installation by one of 100 artistic collaborators who have created a visual representation of an aspect of the war’s civilian history, gleaned from research into real-life stories of family, love, loss, survival, patriotism, collaboration and betrayal. The Encampment is open from 7:30 – 11:00 PM  – a great place to seep through all history and have a picnic. Here’s a video clip courtesy of Luminato of the making of the Encampment.
